Proceedings:
---Meeting called to order @ 7:00 PM by Peggy Littrell
---Minutes of April 9, 2008: No minutes available at this time. Bonnie Walters was absent at the last meeting.
---Treasurer’s Report: Sandi Duff reported the total assets are $63969. at this time. This figure includes the current income from the Horsey Hundred pre-registration, dues, and carry-over from 2007.
The race team has been able to cover their expenses.
---Events:
Ride for the Red: Dwayne Edwards reports the event is proceeding with registration on line doing well. He expects additional participants on the day of the ride. A “store” area will be set up for merchandise purchases. The BCC will sell jerseys and the new polar water bottles. The Red Cross will be selling T-shirts. This is a BCC sponsored ride and club members will be helping. The race team will provide sweep coverage. Horsey Hundred: Mindy Taylor was unable to attend but was available by phone for numerous questions. Things seem to be proceeding without major problems. Bill Fortune reported volunteer status seemed to be satisfactory.
---RideItoiring: Tom Wa4ters has received requests to count additional mileage for those riders who cycle to the starting point. After a general discussion, it was decided that this would pose an insurance liability issue. All incidents are reportable to the insurance company and the club could be then held responsible if something untoward happened prior to the starting point. A unanimous vote of no was given by the group. In order to allow as many rides as possible, optional rides will be allowed, unless too close to a posted ride, or during club rides, such as the Horsey Hundred. Other exclusions are events hosted by the club, such as The Ride for the Red.
--Website: Nedim reported no changes. The domain name has been paid for the next three years.
---Request: Dixie Moore of the Rail to Trail Conservancy has asked if any of the bikes were still available for donation. She would like to present them as gifts during the Big
Sandy Rail to Trail Commemorative Ride being held May 31, 2008. Unfortunately, the last two remaining bikes are being held for the Horsey Hundred give-away.
---President’s Report: Peggy Littrell has reviewed the web site of the Cascade Bicycle Club. She suggests that all committee members and board members look at this interesting site. It has a lot of ideas that the BCC could use as a possible model. They have many ways that they serve their members, such as reduced ride fees and discounts from community business. There are good ideas that could help promote the club.
After a general discussion of ways to increase membership, a proposal was made to offer a free membership to first timers for the remainder of the year. This drive can be held at upcoming events such as Bike Lexington, Ride for the Red and Horsey Hundred. The goal is to grow the club with the thought that the new members will like what they see and remain members. Hopefully, with enough membership we can go to various businesses and get discounts. The proposal was put to a vote and seconded with one dissenting vote.
Current membership cards and packets will be available at the upcoming events for distribution. Remaining packets will be mailed. The membership cards will give proof for discounts and eliminate and privacy issues.
---Next Meeting: June 1 1th, 2008 at 7:00 PM in the board room of Shriner’s Hospital.
---The Meeting was adjourned at 9:30 PM
