Meeting minutes 4/8/09

Members present:  Peggy Littrell, Bill Fortune, Sandy Duff, Dwayne Edwards, Mike Bagley, Jaime Bagley, Keith Batchelor, Patrick Wesolosky, Bonnie Walters, Tom Walters, Doug Wagner, Robert Underwood, Jill Johnson

Minutes from last month approved

VP- nothing to report at this time.

Presidents Corner- Update from the Louisville Bike Summit from Peggy (Complete Streets Act), Kentucky has approved 2 grants for bike and pedestrian education totaling $23,700.

Treasurer:  Still investigating credit card issue to see if we could freeze the account during non usage months, currently the club pays $60 a month for the ability to accept credit cards as payment.  This is primarily used at the Horsey Hundred and Red River Rally.  The club currently has $66,000 in the bank, compared to $38,000 last year.

Reports-

Race- Riding clinics for women to start this month at the Masterson Station ride on Monday nights.  The clinics will start out with basic skills and will progress to include racing techniques in a few months.

Ride- 54 rides thus far this year with 384 riders.  42 rides in March, 70 rides are scheduled for April.  Bike Week during the month of May in Frankfort will include activities such as bike decorating, an Alley Cat race, family ride, a BCC ride, and a CCC triathlon clinic.  Discussed purchasing more club logo apparel from Champion Systems such as arm warmers, jackets, leg warmers, shoe covers, etc.  The draft of BCC ride/touring guidelines, which were distributed at the meeting were debated in depth, including the following topics: mileage credit, the touring season, the lifetime mileage awards and the length of the riding season.  The group voted to adopt the guidelines with the changes recommended at the meeting.  The guidelines will be posted on the club website.

Nominating- Nothing to report, all chairs and committee leadership positions filled

Events-

Horsey Hundred- 475 people signed up so far, which is about the same as last year at this time.  T-shirt design will be on the website shortly, all committees are active and moving forward.

Ride with the Red- 32 people signed up, there will be 2 television interviews with Peggy and Dwayne in the future to publicize this event. April 30th  and May 5th on WTVQ, schwag contents for the giveaway bags are arriving, route marking and map committees are moving forward.

Red River Rally- Nothing to report at this time.

Membership- 289 members currently, approximately 10 renewals or new memberships are coming in each week, Jaime submitted an application for the Lexington Legends game to be the featured organization of the night.

Advocacy- Nothing to report at this time.

Social- Nothing to report at this time.

Education- Keith is putting a workshop package together for new riders, touching on nutrition, ride etiquette, mechanical issues, goal setting, training process etc. The first workshop will tentatively be scheduled for 5/16 or 5/17, to coincide with Bike Month. 

Philanthropic- Malcolm will schedule a meeting with the owner of Firehouse Subs and Dwayne to investigate the possibility of a fund raising ride to benefit the Firehouse Foundation. 

Volunteer of the Year- There is a breakfast 4/21 at the downtown Hyatt to award the recipient of the award, Dwayne and Peggy will be attending from the club.

New Business-

Hats and headsweats have been ordered as previously discussed, including a number of pink ones.

Business cards-  Peggy displayed a draft of the business card proposal, the group discussed how many should be ordered, and the merits of having business cards for the club.  A motion to purchase 2500 cards at a cost of $180 passed. 

Meeting place- the May 13th meeting will take place at Peggy’s house.

Ride of Silence- Keith Batchelor is willing to do the prep work for this ride again this year, but may be out of town during the actual ride which is to occur May 20th, a substitute ride leader may be needed. 

Donation request from Cycling USA- Cycling USA is requesting that clubs throughout the country make a donation to the organization to make up for the shortfall of funds due to reduced funding from corporations this year.  Members discussed making a donation, but felt that it would be better to donate the funds to an organization that will use the funds locally.

Kentucky Derby- Robert Underwood brought up the possibility of getting tables for the club at the Keene Barn for the Kentucky Derby.  Robert will spearhead this effort, and it will be publicized via the club website.  There is a limit of 5 tables per group, which can accommodate 40 people.

Bike Lexington Kickoff- on May 5th  the public forum will occur at the central public library, Peggy will be organizing club representatives to attend this event.
