Philanthropic-
Hope Proctor made a presentation to the club on behalf of the YMCA. As part of the YMCAs Activate America campaign the local YMCA runs a summer camp program called Actively Healthy Kids. Hope proposed a bicycling component be added to the Actively Healthy Kids program, with funds donated by the club being used to finance the purchase of bicycles to use at the North YMCA location. The program includes evaluation and follow up analysis to asses the effectiveness of the initiative.
Wendy Trimble- Rural Route Maps- Wendy presented some examples of mileage signs from the Apple Cider Century in Michigan, and a map in the process of being built. She requested input on how to establish and publish more maps of rides in the area to include commercial interests such as bed and breakfasts, country stores etc. Members suggested establishing a pilot program for a shorter route with signs and maps available on the BCC website, for a loop in Fayette county. If successful the signs and maps could be expanded to include longer loops and other counties. Wendy will research the issue further and present her findings at a later date.
Shearer school requested bikes for their students. Malcolm will follow up to get more info and investigate how they could possibly be incorporated into the bike giveaway.
Tour of the Red River Gorge- 34 teams will probably compete in the event, and the races will require 400 volunteers, Cliff Cantrell dropped off postcards, and volunteer sign up sheets.
Volunteer of the Year- The BCC did not win the competition this year, an organization that transports disabled veterans to their medical appointments was the winner. The BCC may apply again next year.
