Meeting minutes 8/12/09

Minutes from last month approved
National Report- Bill Fortune will be the Vice Chairman of the MBTF, the group has a scheduled meeting with the mayor of Lexington on 8/27.
VP- Bylaws- see 2 handouts from Bill, there was lengthy discussion on how to proceed with revisions to the bylaws.
$50K in the bank, Sandy is in favor of instituting some kind of financial oversight committee. Mindy Taylor is willing to chair the development committee to present a proposal to the board for building a framework for financial oversight for the club, a motion to do this was passed.
Reports-
Website- Nedim is working on a touring page for the mileage, the website is in good shape. Extensive discussion on mapping software to use for ride maps, and how the club could post them to the website. Currently Nedim is paid a fee by the club of $20 per month, to maintain the club website, calendar, forum, etc. considering the amount of work and the skills required this is significantly below market value for these services. A motion was passed to research the market rate for such services, and to offer Nedim an increased retainer. Nedim did not request any increase, and indicated he would not accept any more than $50 per month.
Race- nothing to report.
Ride- Approximately 20 members of the club attended the Frankfort Ride for the Red. Robert Underwood led a ride in Louisville that covered the Ironman bike course, many of the riders completed a century or more. Bob Banet provided SAG coverage for the ride. An overnight trip to Ohio is planned for this weekend, by Tom and Bonnie Walters.
So far this year 315 rides have been led, covering 100182 rider miles. There were 71 rides completed in July, 89 scheduled or completed in August, and 60 scheduled for September.
On 9/3, 2 of Jack Geislers children will participate in the weekly Russell Cave ride, Keith Batchelor will make a short presentation in memory of Jack before the ride.
Nominating- Doug Wagner is formulating a plan to nominate potential officers and collect ballots for the upcoming years election without the involvement of the officers, to eliminate any doubt about the integrity of the process. Doug will present information on how this will be accomplished at the brunch scheduled for 8/22.
Events-
HH- Dwayne will again be the Chairman of next years Horsey Hundred.
RRR- Patrick has contacted a caterer to get a quote for service, he has driven 90% of the routes, and he will need assistance with making phone calls during the day, he is exploring SAG and communication needs during the ride. Peggy will ask Pam Thomas to work on a design for a ride t-shirt.
Membership- 500 members currently, compared to 505 at this time last year. The beginner/novice rides have been going well at Masterson Station Park on Sunday evenings.
Advocacy- MBTF/STR campaign, letter has been sent to encourage the state to continue installing more Share the Road signs.
Social- There is a brunch scheduled for 8/22 at Springview Farm at 3092 Royster Road at 11:30am. A general meeting of the membership will follow brunch, and an agenda for this meeting will be sent out or posted on the website beforehand,
Education- Griffe is planning to have a LAB Road 1 course on 8/22 and 9/5, and an LCI course on 10/9-10/11.
Philanthropic- A motion passed to donate $1000 to the Tri for Sight, the bike course will be named in honor of the BCC.
Ironman- Robert is still looking for volunteers to help man the run course aid station, and also needs lead runner escorts.
2nd Sunday- BCC will have a booth at the event and may support a bike rodeo. The planning is ongoing for this event.
Woodland Art Fair: There will be a bike valet service at the handball court for patrons of the art fair. The organizers would like some members of the club to volunteer to be valets for a couple of hours.
Labor day- Adena park is reserved for the annual picnic. Sandy suggested a bike swap at this years event.
