RIDE WITH THE RED is presented by the Bluegrass Cycling Club on Saturday, May 15th, 2010. Come and join us at Equus Run Vineyard as we support the American Red Cross Bluegrass Area Chapter with a charity cycling ride. All proceeds will be donated to the Bluegrass Chapter of the American Red Cross. This is an excellent opportunity to get your “cycling legs” up to speed for the upcoming season.
Four rides to choose from
If you are new to cycling, join us for our family friendly route of 10 miles in beautiful Scott & Woodford Counties. There is a 30 mile route that will take you through the wonderful city of Midway, KY. a 50 mile loop that will take you through the historic town of Stamping Grounds, beautiful Midway and some of the finest horse farms in the nation. New this year, we will offer a metric century for those looking for an early season challenge.

Saturday, May 15th, 2010. Registration begins at 8:15 a.m. Metric Century and 50 mile route starts at 9:30 a.m. The 30 mile and 10 mile family route friendly starts at 10:00 am

Registration covers snacks, drinks, lunch, sag service and a free bicycle tune-up prior to the Ride at the Pedal the Planet bicycle shop or Lexington Bike Center shop (any time from 1 – 8May 2010, contact the PTP bicycle shop at 859-273-5856 and Capital City Cycles bicycle shop at 859-502-352- 2480 for details ) Sign up early! Terrain
The route is indicative of central Kentucky with some rolling hills especially on the three long routes. This is a great course to rehearse for the “Horsey 100” (May 29-30 2010)
Food!
We will have water and a few snacks at the start of the ride. There will be a rest stop at Buffalo Springs Park in Stamping Ground approximately 15 miles into the route. Following the ride we will serve lunch at the start point from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Non-riding family members can join us for the cook-out for a small additional fee. Wine can be purchased by the glass or the bottle to accompany the Barbecue Lunch Wrist bands will be issued at registration. Please show your wristband to acquire lunch.
Weather
A cool, wet morning and a mild afternoon are usual, but not promised. The ride will go rain or shine. Dress appropriately in layers. All riders are expected to have bicycles in good condition, to obey all traffic laws, and to ride safely and intelligently. Roads are narrow with varying sight distances. These are public roads, so cars will be sharing the road with us. All riders must wear a SPSC or SNELL approved hard shell helmet.
